Asphalt Processing Plant, Collingswood NJ

Byers delivered a fast-track replacement of the materials dryer at an asphalt processing plant in Collingswood, New Jersey, executing structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes under a two-week deadline ahead of paving season. The team planned and sequenced full demolition and installation to maintain safety and schedule, including temporary structural steel to support adjacent systems during changeout.

Scope included removing the existing dryer drum, disconnecting the dust collector system, and taking out the burner along with multiple material feed conveyors and chutes. Using a 150-ton crane, Byers lifted and removed the 50,000-lb drum for load-out and scrap. The new drum was set into the roller system, followed by piping modifications and reconnection to 36-inch collector ducts, reinstallation of catwalks, and restoration of all electrical connections to bring the system back online.

During commissioning, the team identified improperly installed internal flights by the drum manufacturer—critical for material turnover—and corrected them on site to protect performance and schedule. The project finished in ten days, ahead of the target, with the system ready to supply material for asphalt production.
