Department of Transportation- Delaware
Byers has supported the State of Delaware’s transportation network since 1994, delivering utility services that underpin signalized intersections and intelligent traffic systems across the state. To date, the team has installed over one million feet of fiber optics spanning more than 190 miles, advancing DelDOT’s long-term modernization of intersections and related infrastructure to accommodate growing traffic demands.
Most work occurs beneath active roadways to keep traffic moving. Using directional boring, Byers installs conduits, cables, and associated materials with minimal disruption, while integrating a statewide camera network and centralized controls that allow intersections to be monitored and managed from a single command center. Services also include optimizing signal timing to match real-time traffic patterns, improving flow and reliability across the system.
Operating near live lanes requires disciplined traffic management, modern safety equipment, and a robust safety program—standards that guide every phase of construction. Byers’ performance has earned the confidence of the City of Wilmington, DART, and New Castle County, all of whom rely on the same expertise to keep their networks up and running while protecting crews and the traveling public.
