Hydrogen Fueling System – Olathe, KS
In Olathe, Kansas, Byers delivered a turnkey mechanical installation for a facility’s hydrogen fueling system that supports material-handling operations. Work planning targeted normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 10-hour shifts) and coordinated closely with other trades to maintain safety, schedule, and clean installation practices while equipment was unpacked, set, anchored, and connected per the statement of work.
Scope included installing dispensers with bollards/barricades and their control panels; fabricating strut racks with wire basket tray above dispensers and panels; running mechanical utilities (air and hydrogen) between the building and the hydrogen pad; adding drain tubing from dispensers and the oil separator to the nearest drains; setting air dryers and manifold; and routing ½″, ¾″, and ¼″ poly air tubing to control panels, the hydrogen pad, and between dispensers/panels with J-hook support. The team placed stainless-steel hydrogen tubing with cone-and-thread fittings on the pad, installed roof vent stacks and roof penetrations with sleeves (flashing by others), routed hydrogen tubing on rubber roof blocks (by roofer), furnished a protective exterior wall cover, and provided crane/rigging to set equipment skids and the liquid-hydrogen storage tank on the pad
Execution emphasized quality and safety: Hilti adhesive anchors for equipment; leak-testing of air lines; nitrogen/air blow-out of stainless tubing to clear debris prior to final connections; and pressure testing per the defined procedure. Assumptions and clarifications covered wall construction details, owner-provided piping/supports/fittings, and coordination with the roofing contractor for roof blocks, enabling a maintainable, code-compliant fueling backbone ready for commissioning and long-term operation.
